US-based provider Affordable Solar has been awarded a contract by energy holding company PNM to build a new 30MW photovoltaic (PV) project for the Facebook Data Center in Los Lunas, New Mexico.
Under the $37m contract, Affordable Solar will perform engineering, procurement, and construction work for the solarpower project.
Construction on the first of three 10MW solar project sites will start in the middle of this year.
The three solar power facilities will deploy advanced solar tracking technology developed by US-based manufacturer Array Technologies.
Affordable Solar president Kevin Bassalleck said: “We're honoured to have been selected by PNM to design and construct the solar facilities that will power Facebook's new data centre in Los Lunas.
“It's a continuation of the working relationship we've established with PNM over many years, and we're grateful to have been provided this new opportunity as they deploy more utility-scale solar.”

By GlobalDataThe 30MW Facebook Data Center solarpower generation project will provide access to 100% renewable energy through the use of ground-mounted single-axis tracker PV installation.
PNM chairman, president and CEO Pat Vincent-Collawn said: “This project clearly demonstrates some of the best possible outcomes of an economic development project: supporting a local renewable energy business, creating local construction jobs and helping to grow our economy here in New Mexico.”
The three solar energy facilities will use a total of approximately 115,000 solar PV panels. The project will open opportunity for 40 new full-time jobs at Affordable Solar, while each of the 10MW sites will involve more than 120 construction jobs.
