Engineering company Pöyry has been awarded an engineer services assignment for the 400MW Ashuganj combined-cycle power plant (East) project in Bangladesh.
Ashuganj Power Station Company (APSCL) is an enterprise of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). APSCL's project director Anwar Hossain said: “It is a great pleasure having selected Pöyry as our owner's engineer, we trust that their competent advice will ensure the successful completion of the project.”
Located in the Brahmanbaria District, approximately 90km north east of the capital, the plant will replace an old and inefficient 150MW steam turbine generation facility.
Under the assignment, Pöyry will have to carry out supervision of demolition, disposal, and site preparation supervision and overseeing construction, as well as testing and commissioning supervision for a period of 36 months starting from the Q4, 2017.
Pöyry's thermal power and renewables business regional director Michael Gruenenfelder said: “The plant will provide cost-competitive electricity to the people of Bangladesh as the country aims to rapidly increase electricity supply as part of Vision 2021.”
The Government of Bangladesh’s Vision 2021 aims to develop an integrated and developed energy sector with a diversified fuel mix to help realise a sustainable local and national economy, as well as increase electricity supply to 20,000MW in the country.
