Southern Power has begun commercial operation of the new 102MW Lamesa solar facility in Texas, US.
Southern Power owns one of the largest utility-scale solar portfolios in the state, currently operating three large-scale projects.

The company's president and chief executive officer (CEO) Buzz Miller said: “The Lamesa solar facility is an important addition to our growing renewable fleet and we look forward to operating it for the benefit of our customer.
“By providing clean, affordable, wholesale generation, we are able to deliver on our promise to help build the future of energy.”
In July last year, the Lamesa solarpower project was acquired by Southern Power from energy equipment and solutions provider Renewable Energy Systems (RES) Americas.
Under the deal, RES Americas was responsible for delivering full project engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services and is currently working as the operations and maintenance contractor.

By GlobalDataLocated in Dawson County, the Lamesa facility is built over an area of 887 acres and features approximately 410,000 photovoltaic (PV) panels.
The plant is capable of producing enough wholesale generation to meet the average electricity requirements of approximately 15,000 Texas households.
The City of Garland will purchase generated energy and the associated renewable energy credits (REC), which it may retain or divest under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
