Description

Seabrook 1 is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by United Engineers & Constructors and Westinghouse Electric, are the main contractors for the project.

The 1,296MW reactor is operated by Nextera Energy Seabrook. NextEra Energy Resources, Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric, Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant and Hudson Light & Power Department are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 88.23%, 11.59%, 0.1% and 0.08% respectively.

The PWR reactor generates 10,921.53GWh/annum of electricity. It features 193 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in Jul, 1976 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Aug, 1990.

Contractors involved

GE Power was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the nuclear reactor. The company provided 1 steam turbine for the project. United Engineers & Constructors was selected as an architect engineer for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by Westinghouse Electric. The reactor vessel has been supplied by Westinghouse Electric. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Carbon Steel (cst). The civil works were carried out by Perini Power Contractors.
