Leibstadt is a 1,275MW nuclear reactor which is located within the premises of Leibstadt Nuclear Power Station. It is located in Aargau, Switzerland. Description
Leibstadt is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by ABB and General Electric Technical Services, are the main contractors for the project.
The 1,275MW reactor is operated by Kernkraftwerk Leibstadt. Alpiq Holding, Axpo Power, Axpo Solutions, BKW Energie, Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke and AEW Energie are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 27.4%, 22.8%, 16.3%, 14.5%, 13.6% and 5.4% respectively.
The BWR reactor generates 4,851.9GWh/annum of electricity. It features 648 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released. Safety contol rods that are used to control the fission rate in the reactor are 8 in number.

The reactor construction commenced in Jan, 1974 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Dec, 1984.

GE Power was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the nuclear reactor. The company provided 1 steam turbine for the project. ABB and Poyry Schweiz were selected as the architect engineers for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by GE Power. The reactor vessel have been supplied by Sulzer Ltd and Rotterdamsche Droogdok Mij (RDM). The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (SA 533 B/SA 508 Cl 2). The civil works were carried out by ABB Ltd and Poyry Schweiz.
