Ansaldo Nucleare has won an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract from Nuklearna elektrarna Krško (NEK) for Phase III of the safety upgrade programme (SUP) at Krškonuclear power plant (NPP) in Slovenia.

As part of the contract, Ansaldo Nucleare will design and realise a bunkerised building (BB2) that will include auxiliary systems such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), as well as fire, lighting, and other improvements.

Ansaldo Nucleare will also be responsible for the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of the plant’s alternate safety injection system, alternate emergency feedwater system, and emergency electrical system.

Work is expected to be completed by December 2021.

"By implementing the SUP, the long-term operations regulatory requirements will be met and the plant will be ready for continuous operation."

Acting as main contractor, AnsaldoNucleare will be supported by Tractebel Engineering and a number of Slovenian and Croatian companies that include Kolektor IBE-Sipro-Ekonerg, Elmont, and Numip.

Krško NPP management board president Stanislav Rožman said: “This project is significant for future operation of the Krško NPP.
