Vestas Wind Systems has signed a contract with Zuma Energía to provide 123 V136-3.45MW turbines for a new 424MW windfarm in Mexico.
The new Parque Eólico Reynosa project will be located in the north-eastern state of Tamaulipas, and is said to be one of the largest projects of its kind in Latin America.
The latest order follows a conditional agreement signed between the two companies regarding the supply of turbines for the Reynosa III project, which has a total capacity of 443MW.
The new order also features a 15-year active output management 5000 (AOM5000) service contract, which will see Vestas delivering and installing the turbines. Delivery is scheduled to begin later this year, while commissioning is expected next year.
Vestas Mexico and northern Latin America managing director Angélica Celis said: “Tamaulipas has a leading position in the country within wind energy and we are proud to be part of this by installing the Reynosa project.
“The blades for V136-3.45MW projects in Latin America will be produced in Mexico, which underlines our long-term localisation strategy in Mexico and Vestas’ strong commitment to support the country’s renewable target of 35% of clean energy by 2024.”
