The global power industry noticed a 5.2% rise in IT hiring activity in October 2021 over the previous month, led by Siemens 13.3% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The power industry’s overall hiring activity increased 3.28% when compared with September 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 10.53% share of the global power industry’s hiring activity in October 2021, up 0.41% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2021 were 3.04% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 8.8% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 54.34% emerged as the top IT occupation in the power hiring activity in October 2021, a 0.64% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 12.7% in October 2021, down 12.59% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.63% share in October 2021, a decline of 4.52% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 11.71% share in October 2021 and a rise of 2.15% over September 2021.
Top five power companies by recruitment activity in October 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 0.63% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global power industry during October 2021 over September 2021.
Siemens posted 378 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a drop of 8.25% over the previous month, followed by Companhia de Transmissao de Energia Eletrica Paulista with 366 jobs and a 3.17% decline. NextEra Energy with 269 IT jobs and Schneider Electric with 160 jobs, recorded a 6.27% decline and a 21.21% rise, respectively, while PG&E recorded a 64.71% rise with 112 job postings during October 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in power industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global power IT hiring activity in October 2021 with a 48.89% share, which marked a 0.14% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 22.19%, registering a 4.68% month-on-month decline. South & Central America was the third leading region with a 14.35% share and a 2.86% drop over September 2021.
In the fourth place was Asia-Pacific with a share of 13.4% and a month-on-month drop of 5.46%. Central Denmark Region stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.67%, registering a 90% increase over the previous month.
