Rolls-Royce Power Systems subsidiary Bergen Engines has signed a set of contracts with a combined value of €133m to deliver two power stations in Bangladesh.

As part of one of the contracts, Bergen Engines will provide a 112MW power station to Confidence Power Rangpur. Delivery of the plant is set to be carried out within this year.

Under a separate contract, Bergen Engines will supply a similar plant to Midland East Power. This 150MW unit is scheduled to be delivered next year in Ashuganj.

Both the contracts state Bergen Engines will also deliver spare parts to the plants for a period of 15 years.

"Once delivered, the plants are expected to help the Government of Bangladesh double the country’s power generation capacity to 38,000MW."

Bergen Engines managing director Jeff Elliott said: “Bergen Engines delivered its first Rolls-Royce genset engine to Bangladesh way back in 2001, and has since built power stations covering more than 5% of the country’s overall power supply.

“These new power plants represent a major step forward for us, and we are totally committed to doing our very best for our customers and, indeed, the whole country.”

Once delivered, the plants are expected to help the Government of Bangladesh double the country’s power generation capacity to 38,000MW, meeting a forecast demand of around 33,000MW by 2030.

To meet this goal, the country is required to increase its generation capacity by 9,000MW over the next four years.
