Description

The Toshiba Fuchu Complex-Hydrogen Energy Research & Development Center Fuel Cell System was developed by Toshiba Fuel Cell Power Systems. The project is owned by Toshiba Fuel Cell Power Systems (100%), a subsidiary of Toshiba.

The key applications of the project are renewable energy integration and retail hydrogen fuel services.

Contractors involved

Toshiba Fuel Cell Power Systems has delivered the battery energy storage project.

Additional information

Toshiba has brought together the Group’s various hydrogen related technologies including renewable energy-based power generation systems, water electrolysis systems, fuel cells, and so on, in order to conduct the development and demonstration testing of hydrogen solutions, such as the optimal operation of whole systems using a hydrogen energy management system. Toshiba Fuel Cell Power Systems is responsible for fuel cell systems. In demonstration tests, first of all a hydrogen generation device produces hydrogen by the electrolysis of water using electricity obtained from solar power. The hydrogen produced is then stored in a hydrogen tank. The fuel cell system receives a supply of this stored hydrogen from which electricity and heat are produced and supplied to the building. The process creates absolutely no carbon dioxide and is therefore considered as the ultimate clean energy system.

Methodology

All publicly-announced energy storage projects included in this analysis are drawn from GlobalData’s Power IC. The information regarding the projects are sourced through secondary information sources such as country specific power players, company news and reports, statistical organisations, regulatory body, government planning reports and their publications and is further validated through primary from various stakeholders such as power utility companies, consultants, energy associations of respective countries, government bodies and professionals from leading players in the power sector.
