The thermal energy storage project uses molten salt as its storage technology. The project was announced in 2017 and will be commissioned in 2022.

Description

The Noor Midelt Solar Thermal Plant 1 – Thermal Energy Storage System is being developed by Abu Dhabi Future Energy, EDF Renewables and Green Of Africa. The project is owned by Abu Dhabi Future Energy (33.33%), a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment, EDF Renewables (33.33%), a subsidiary of EDF Renewables and Green Of Africa (33.33%).

The key applications of the project are onsite renewable generation shifting, renewables capacity firming and renewables energy time shift.
