Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of contracts for the quarter, accounting for 201 contracts and a 72.3% share, followed by Offshore with 74 contracts and a 26.6% share. Onshore Repowered stood in third place with three contracts and a 1.1% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the second position in terms of number of contracts during Q2 2021 with a 30.7% share.
The proportion of contracts by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 96 contracts and a 34.7% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 69 contracts and a 24.9% share
- Project Implementation: 47 contracts and a 17% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 47 contracts and a 17% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 12 contracts and a 4.3% share
- Electricity Supply: six contracts and a 2.2% share.
Europe leads wind contracts activity in Q2 2021
Comparing contracts activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 162 contracts and a share of 58.5% during Q2 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 66 contracts and a 23.8% share and North America with 32 contracts and an 11.6% share.
In fourth place was South and Central America with 14 contracts and a 5.1% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with three contracts and a 1.1% share.
Wind technology contracts in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of contracts in Wind technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Urzad Regulacji Energetyki (Poland): 5,530MW from four contracts
- Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan): 3,000MW from two contracts
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 690MW capacity from two contracts.
Wind technology contracts in Q2 2021: Top winners by capacity
The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Orsted (Denmark): 2,633MW from two contracts
- EW Baltica two sp z oo (Poland) and EW Baltica three (Poland): 2,543MW from one contract
- Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates) and ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 1,500MW capacity from one contract.
