Siemens Gamesa has secured a contract to supply typhoon-class onshore wind turbines for the Dohoku wind farm cluster in Japan.
Located on the Hokkaido island, the 339.7MW wind farm cluster is said to be the largest of its kind in the country.

The cluster comprises four wind projects that will be developed by Japanese renewable energy developer Eurus Energy.
Under the deal, Siemens Gamesa will supply 79 of its turbines to be installed at the wind farms.
Siemens Gamesa Japan managing director Russell Cato said: “We are the first company in the industry to have developed 4.3MW typhoon type certified onshore turbines, which have also achieved site-specific Wind Farm Certificate for several Japanese projects.
“Equipped with the strongest T-class turbine in the market, we are very pleased to supply this milestone giant project to capture the abundant high winds in Japan and extend our partnership with Eurus Energy over the last 20-plus years, with projects both inside and outside Japan.”

As well as supplying the wind turbines, Siemens Gamesa will provide technical field assistance for the construction and commissioning of the four wind projects.
The projects are expected to be commissioned in the second half of 2023.
