Power industry contracts in May 2021: Europe leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 97 contracts and a share of 39.1% during May 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 68 contracts and a 27.4% share and North America with 41 contracts and a 16.5% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 26 contracts and a 10.5% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 16 contracts and a 6.5% share.
On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 185 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 106.

Solar tops by technology in May 2021
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 105 contracts and a 46.9% share, followed by wind with 77 contracts and a 34.4% share and thermal with 14 contracts and a 6.3% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during May 2021, with 91 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (63) and Generation Equipment (60).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 77 contracts and a 31% share
- Supply & Erection: 71 contracts and a 28.6% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 56 contracts and a 22.6% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 23 contracts and a 9.3% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 15 contracts and a 6% share
- Electricity Supply: six contracts and a 2.4% share.
Power contracts in May 2021: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- State Power Investment (China): 7,200MW from one contract
- Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan): 1,940MW from two contracts
- Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Pakistan): 1,530MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Jolywood (Taizhou) Solar Technology (China): 7,200MW from one contract
- Power Construction Corporation of China (China): 1,530MW from one contract
- ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 1,500MW capacity from one contract.
