Indian power company JSW Energy’s subsidiary, JSW Renew Energy, has signed a 540MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for blended wind power capacity.
The wind energy will be supplied from wind projects with a combined capacity of 810MW, which the company secured in an auction conducted by SECI last August.
In a BSE filing, JSW Energy said: “This is the single largest PPA for the wind and blended wind category in the industry, and marks our foray into the wind and blended wind energy generation segment.”
Insiders said that discussions are currently underway between the two companies for the remaining capacity won in the auction.
JSW Energy currently owns 4,559MW of generation capacity, which includes 3,158MW of thermal power, 1,391MW of hydroelectric power and 10MW of solar power.
The company’s goal is to reach 10,000MW capacity over the next three to five years, primarily through renewable additions.

By GlobalDataIn an effort to meet its renewable purchase obligations, JSW Energy intends to build a renewable capacity of 1,100MW. A 240MW greenfield hydro project is also being built at Kutehr, Himachal Pradesh.
Last October, JSW Energy reportedly announced plans to invest INR88.6bn ($1.2bn) investment in two wind power plants in the state of Karnataka.
LiveMint reported that the company sought planning consent for 3,150 acres of land for establishing the projects.
According to the Karnataka Commerce and Industries Department, the two wind farms will have a combined capacity of almost 1.4GW.
