Power industry contracts in Q1 2021: Europe leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 440 contracts and a share of 42.1% during Q1 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 315 contracts and a 30.2% share and North America with 186 contracts and a 17.8% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 61 contracts and a 5.8% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 42 contracts and a 4% share.
On the basis of the last four-quarter average, Europe held a lead over others with 521 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 295.

Solar tops by technology in Q1 2021
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 512 contracts and a 54.4% share, followed by wind with 285 contracts and a 30.3% share and thermal with 75 contracts and an 8% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in global power contracts activity during Q1 2021, with 449 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (259) and Electricity Procurement (204).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 454 contracts and a 43.5% share
- Supply & Erection: 313 contracts and a 30% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 172 contracts and a 16.5% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 53 contracts and a 5.1% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 36 contracts and a 3.4% share
- Electricity Supply: 14 contracts and a 1.3% share
- Others: two contracts and a 0.2% share.
Power contracts in Q1 2021: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Andhra Pradesh Green Energy (India): 6,400MW from 12 contracts
- New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (United States): 4,602.89MW from 22 contracts
- Nuclear Power Corporation of India (India) and Gansu Province Electric Power Investment Group (China): 2,000MW capacity from one contract.
Power contracts in Q1 2021: Top winners by capacity
The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 3,885MW from eight contracts
- Adani Renewable Energy Holding Twelve (India): 3,000MW from five contracts
- Larsen & Toubro (India): 2,710MW capacity from four contracts.
