North America power industry contracts in Q4 2020: The US leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in Q4 2020 with 158 contracts and a share of 85.4%, up 0.6% over the previous quarter and down 24% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Canada with 19 contracts and a share of 10.3% and Mexico with four contracts and a share of 2.2% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, the US held the top spot with 209 contracts, followed by Canada with 22 and Mexico with eight contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q4 2020
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 101 contracts and a 59.8% share, followed by wind with 40 contracts and a 23.7% share and thermal with 18 contracts and a 10.7% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in North America power contracts activity during Q4 2020, with 74 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (54) and Power Plant (39).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Power Purchase Agreement: 64 contracts and a 34.6% share
- Supply & Erection: 52 contracts and a 28.1% share
- Project Implementation: 38 contracts and a 20.5% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 15 contracts and an 8.1% share
- Electricity Supply: ten contracts and a 5.4% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 3.2% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:
- Amazon Web Services (United States): 1,210MW from two contracts
- Northern Indiana Public Service Co L (United States): 1,180MW from four contracts
- Terra-Gen L (United States): 1,118MW capacity from one contract.
