Power industry contracts in Q3 2020: Europe leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 540 contracts and a share of 45.6% during Q3 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 286 contracts and a 24.2% share and North America with 217 contracts and an 18.3% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 84 contracts and a 7.1% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 57 contracts and a 4.8% share.
On the basis of the last four-quarter average, Europe held a lead over others with 447 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 253.

Solar tops by technology in Q3 2020
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 442 contracts and a 45.7% share, followed by wind with 306 contracts and a 31.6% share and thermal with 114 contracts and an 11.8% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in global power contracts activity during Q3 2020, with 424 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (328) and Electricity Procurement (204).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 443 contracts and a 37.4% share
- Project Implementation: 388 contracts and a 32.8% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 177 contracts and a 14.9% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 75 contracts and a 6.3% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 74 contracts and a 6.3% share
- Electricity Supply: 26 contracts and a 2.2% share
- Others: one contract and a 0.1% share.
Power contracts in Q3 2020: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Taiwan Power (Taiwan): 6,500MW from one contract
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 4,981.95MW from five contracts
- Binh Thuan People’s Committee: 3,500MW capacity from one contract.
Power contracts in Q3 2020: Top winners by capacity
The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- General Electric International (United States): 6,709MW from two contracts
- CTCI (Taiwan): 6,500MW from one contract
- Azure Power (India) and Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (China): 4,000MW capacity from one contract.
