Spanish turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has secured its largest contract for its 5.X wind turbines in Sweden.
The company will supply 60 units of its SG 5.8-170 wind turbines for the 372MW Björnberget onshore wind farm, in Ånge, central Sweden. Asset management firm Prime Capital and independent power producer Enlight own the wind farm.

A Siemens Gamesa spokesperson said Björnberget wind farm will become one of the largest projects in Europe, with construction works expected to begin this year.
Prime Capital Infrastructure head Dr Mathias Bimberg said: “The partnership with Siemens Gamesa, access to their latest technology and our focus on optimizing layouts for maximum production and minimal construction costs, will enable us to realize this project at a very competitive levelized cost of energy, and hence attractive risk adjusted returns for our investors.”
SGRE has also signed a 15-year service agreement for the wind turbines, and will install them in 2022. The company stated that this order pushed total 5.X platform order to more than 1GW capacity, in 18 months since its launch.
The 60 wind turbines will operate at 6.2MW using OptimaFlex technology. The company claims the 5.X turbine has the largest rotor in onshore generation, and can offer highest annual energy production for the lowest cost of energy.
Upon completion of the project, the wind farm will power approximately 300,000 European households.
