North America power industry tenders in August 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in August 2020 with 205 tenders and a share of 86.9%, up 2% over the previous month and up 61% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with 31 tenders and a share of 13.1%.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 127 tenders, followed by Canada with 29.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in August 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 109 tenders and an 85.2% share, followed by solar with 16 tenders and a 12.5% share and wind with two tenders and a 1.6% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in August 2020, with 108 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (101) and Power Plant (14).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 173 tenders and a 73.3% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 42 tenders and a 17.8% share
  3. Project Implementation: 17 tenders and a 7.2% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 0.8% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: one tender and a 0.4% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.4% share.

Power tenders in August 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Nebraska Public Power District (United States): 1.5MW from one tender
  2. Brampton Flower City: 0.6MW from one tender
  3. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife: 0.04MW capacity from one tender.
