Unit 1 of the UAE’s Barakah nuclear power plant has linked to the country’s electricity transmission grid for the first time. Located in the Al Dhafrah region of Abu Dhabi, the project was launched at the start of this month. Once fully operational, the four units of Barakah will meet up to 25% of the country’s electricity demands.
Canadian Solar’s wholly-owned subsidiary Recurrent Energy has started construction on the 144MW AC Pflugerville Solar Project in Travis County, Texas. The project, once operational, will generate enough electricity to power nearly 25,000 homes.
China Three Gorges has reached an agreement to purchase 13 solar plants in Spain built by renewables firm X-Elio, Reuters reported. The deal marks the Chinese state-owned energy and infrastructure firm’s entry into the Spanish energy sector. Built between 2019 and 2020, the solar plants are fully operational and have a combined capacity of just over 500MW.
JinkoSolar has received a contract from Shanghai Electric to deliver nearly 1GW of solar modules for Phase V of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority Solar Park. As per the agreement, JinkoSolar will deliver its Swan series modules, which are designed to operate in high temperature areas such as Dubai and on the levelized cost of energy.
