Middle East and Africa power industry contracts in July 2020: Saudi Arabia leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, Saudi Arabia led the activity in July 2020 with five contracts and a share of 17.9%, up 0.5% over the previous month and up 67% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by the United Arab Emirates with four contracts and a share of 14.3% and Iran with three contracts and a share of 10.7% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, Saudi Arabia held the top spot with three contracts, followed by Iran with three and the United Arab Emirates with two contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in July 2020
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with nine contracts and a 47.4% share, followed by thermal with four contracts and a 21.1% share and wind with three contracts and a 15.8% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in July 2020, with 11 contracts, followed by T&D Project (9) and Generation Equipment (6).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 13 contracts and a 46.4% share
- Supply & Erection: seven contracts and a 25% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: five contracts and a 17.9% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: two contracts and a 7.1% share
- Electricity Supply: one contract and a 3.6% share.
Power contracts in July 2020: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Emirates Water and Electricity (United Arab Emirates): 2,000MW from one contract
- ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 900MW from one contract
- Margam Valley Solar Energy: 200MW capacity from one contract.
Power contracts in July 2020: Top winners by capacity
The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates), Abu Dhabi National Energy (United Arab Emirates), EDF Renewables (France) and Jinko Power Technology (China): 2,000MW from one contract
- Shanghai Electric Group (China): 900MW from one contract
- Sinohydro (China): 200MW capacity from one contract.
