Global: Globally coronavirus cases are nearing 20 million, with more than 731,000 known deaths. The current number of confirmed infections stands at 19,869,127, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, with total new cases daily averaging more than 250,000.
US: Covid-19 cases in the US now exceed five million, adding a million cases in just over two weeks, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. The nation with the worst coronavirus outbreak hit four million cases on July 23, amid a skyrocketing outbreak in the Sunbelt and political battles over the Trump administration’s handling of the virus response.
Coronavirus infections among US children grew by 40% in the last half of July, according to a report from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association, as the country debated the risks of reopening schools in the fall.
California reported 8,373 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total to 554,160. Deaths rose by 104 to 10,293. A total of 30.5% of patients in hospitals are in intensive-care units, based on a five-day average, the highest in more than a month, according to state data Sunday.
Brazil: Brazil’s health ministry has reported 23,010 new cases of Covid-19, with 572 new fatalities, as the country continues to struggle with containing the spread of the virus.

Greece: Authorities announced a record daily number of 203 new coronavirus cases, with one death. The total number of cases is now 5,623, with 212 deaths. Greece introduced an early lockdown in mid-March, which buffered the country from the devastating effects of the pandemic seen in many of its European counterparts.
New Zealand: New Zealand has reported its 101st day in a row with no recorded community transmission of Covid-19 from an unknown source. All 21 active cases of the coronavirus have been diagnosed in travellers returning to New Zealand from other countries; all of them are in quarantine at the government’s managed isolation facilities.
South Korea: South Korea reported 28 new coronavirus cases on Monday, including 17 local infections raising the country’s total to 14,626.
Italy: Italy reported 463 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, the second-highest number in two months after reaching 552 on Friday. The country has recorded 250,566 cases since late February. Two more deaths were reported.
Vietnam: Vietnam confirmed two more novel coronavirus infection deaths, the ministry of health reported on its website. The nation has reported 384 local infections since the outbreak in Danang on July 25. It now has a total of 841 cases with 13 deaths.
