Power industry tenders in Q2 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity
On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 1,284 tenders and a share of 54.2% during Q2 2020, followed by North America with 673 tenders and a 28.4% share and Europe with 285 tenders and a 12% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 87 tenders and a 3.7% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 39 tenders and a 1.6% share.
On the basis of the last four-quarter average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 1,777 tenders, followed by North America with 433.

Thermal tops by technology in Q2 2020
Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 457 tenders and a 53.2% share, followed by solar with 275 tenders and a 32% share and hydro with 71 tenders and an 8.3% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in global power tenders activity during Q2 2020, with 785 tenders, followed by T&D Project (709) and Generation Equipment (462).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 1,031 tenders and a 43.5% share
- Project Implementation: 730 tenders and a 30.8% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 509 tenders and a 21.5% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 56 tenders and a 2.4% share
- Electricity Supply: 24 tenders and a 1% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 15 tenders and a 0.6% share
- Others: three tenders and a 0.1% share.
Power tenders in Q2 2020: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India (India): 10,000MW from one tender
- Ministry of Energy, Algeria: 4,000MW from one tender
- NHPC (India): 2,930MW capacity from two tenders.
