Power industry contracts in May 2020: Europe leads global activity

On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 79 contracts and a share of 32.5% during May 2020, followed by North America with 71 contracts and a 29.2% share and Asia-Pacific with 57 contracts and a 23.5% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with 19 contracts and a 7.8% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with 17 contracts and a 7% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 130 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 80.

Solar tops by technology in May 2020

Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 80 contracts and a 39.4% share, followed by wind with 57 contracts and a 28.1% share and thermal with 32 contracts and a 15.8% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment during May 2020, with 74 contracts, followed by Power Plant (71) and Electricity Procurement (57).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 90 contracts and a 37% share
  2. Project Implementation: 67 contracts and a 27.6% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 50 contracts and a 20.6% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 19 contracts and a 7.8% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 12 contracts and a 4.9% share
  6. Electricity Supply: five contracts and a 2.1% share.

Power contracts in May 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. MP Power Management (India): 1,320MW from one contract
  2. PT Indonesia Dafeng Heshun Energy Industri: 1,200MW from one contract
  3. Southern California Edison (United States): 870MW capacity from eight contracts.

Power contracts in May 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. China Gezhouba Group (China): 1,630MW from four contracts
  2. Pench Thermal Energy (MP) (India): 1,320MW from one contract
  3. China CAMC Engineering (China): 640MW capacity from one contract.
