Power industry tenders in May 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 407 tenders and a share of 53.9% during May 2020, followed by North America with 208 tenders and a 27.5% share and Europe with 96 tenders and a 12.7% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 29 tenders and a 3.8% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 15 tenders and a 2% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 581 tenders, followed by North America with 145.

Thermal tops by technology in May 2020

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 132 tenders and a 52.6% share, followed by solar with 79 tenders and a 31.5% share and hydro with 30 tenders and a 12% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment during May 2020, with 253 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (240) and Generation Equipment (140).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 321 tenders and a 42.5% share
  2. Project Implementation: 242 tenders and a 32.1% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 161 tenders and a 21.3% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 18 tenders and a 2.4% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: seven tenders and a 0.9% share
  6. Electricity Supply: six tenders and a 0.8% share.

Power tenders in May 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Dominion Energy (United States): 1,250MW from one tender
  2. Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Malaysia): 1,000MW from one tender
  3. The Regulatory Authority for Energy (Greece): 963.48MW capacity from two tenders.
