The Indian Government is reportedly working on an INR700bn ($9.16bn) financial package to mitigate the impact of coronavirus-related lockdown on the energy sector. The financial aid will be offered through a mix of debt moratoriums and payment deferrals, reported Moneycontrol. Power distribution companies have registered 80% fall in revenue in the last monthly billing cycle.
Seven nuclear power plants have received work hour exemptions from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The permission offers these nuclear power plants the flexibility to maintain the required workforce to ensure operational safety and security at a time when staffing may be affected due to the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak. The exemption is valid for a period of 60 days.
TPI Composites has temporarily halted manufacturing of wind turbine parts after 28 of its workers tested Covid-19 positive at Iowa’s Newton facility. The facility will be closed until the middle of next week to be deep-cleaned and all employees will be tested for Covid-19.
Lithuania’s Ignalina nuclear power plant, which suspended all non-essential work early this month following the coronavirus outbreak, has resumed decommissioning work. The facility has restarted loading the used nuclear fuel into containers on 21 April to ensure the execution of the streamlined decommissioning process. Dismantling and related activities will start next week, while the primary treatment of radioactive waste and all remaining processes will recommence in the third week.
