Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of tenders for the quarter, accounting for 20 tenders and a 66.7% share, followed by Offshore with ten tenders and a 33.3% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the fourth position in terms of number of tenders during Q1 2020 with a 4.1% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 16 tenders and a 50% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: seven tenders and a 21.9% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three tenders and a 9.4% share

  5. Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and a 6.3% share
  6. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 6.3% share.

North America leads wind tenders activity in Q1 2020

Comparing tenders activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 11 tenders and a share of 34.4% during Q1 2020, followed by Europe with nine tenders and a 28.1% share and Asia-Pacific with eight tenders and a 25% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with three tenders and a 9.4% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with one tender and a 3.1% share.

Wind technology tenders in Q1 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Wind technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministry of Economic Affairs (Taiwan) (Taiwan): 10,000MW from one tender
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 8,200MW from three tenders
  3. New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (United States): 6,400MW capacity from five tenders.
