Power industry tenders in January 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 452 tenders and a share of 64.6% during January 2020, followed by North America with 144 tenders and a 20.6% share and Europe with 50 tenders and a 7.1% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 35 tenders and a 5% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 19 tenders and a 2.7% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 630 tenders, followed by Middle East and Africa with 140.

Thermal tops by technology in January 2020

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 118 tenders and a 51.3% share, followed by solar with 84 tenders and a 36.5% share and hydro with 16 tenders and a 7% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment during January 2020, with 268 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (204) and Generation Equipment (110).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 284 tenders and a 40.6% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 274 tenders and a 39.1% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 110 tenders and a 15.7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 22 tenders and a 3.1% share
  5. Electricity Supply: six tenders and a 0.9% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: four tenders and a 0.6% share.

Power tenders in January 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministry of Economic Affairs (Taiwan) (Taiwan): 10,000MW from one tender
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,418MW from four tenders
  3. Emirates Water and Electricity (United Arab Emirates): 1,500MW capacity from one tender.
