Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in Q4 2019: Oman leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, Oman led the activity in Q4 2019 with 71 tenders and a share of 21.8%, up 5.2% over the previous quarter and up 27% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by South Africa with 69 tenders and a share of 21.2% and Iraq with 45 tenders and a share of 13.8% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, South Africa held the top spot with 149 tenders, followed by Oman with 56 and Saudi Arabia with 21 tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in Q4 2019
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 37 tenders and a 53.6% share, followed by solar with 24 tenders and a 34.8% share and hydro with four tenders and a 5.8% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in Middle East and Africa power tenders activity during Q4 2019, with 147 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (104) and Generation Equipment (36).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 132 tenders and a 40.6% share
- Project Implementation: 92 tenders and a 28.3% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 86 tenders and a 26.5% share
