The first steam unit at Asaluyeh combined-cycle power plant in Iran is scheduled to begin commercial operations by March.
Mapna, an Iran-based engineering and energy company, is developing the unit and has completed 90% of the works at the plant.

Located 25km off South Pars Special Economic Zone (SEZ), near the Southern Iranian province of Bushehr, the Asaluyeh combined-cycle power plant is equipped with two gas units. Each unit has a generation capacity of 166MW.
The addition of new 159MW steam unit is expected to further increase the plant’s efficiency by 50% and reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses while eliminating 250 million cubic metres of gas consumption annually.
Two additional steam units with a capacity of 159MW are also currently being constructed and are expected to become operational by next year.
Some equipment for heat recovery steam generators has been imported, while domestic manufacturers have provided other equipment.
The combined cycle power plants are considered to be more eco-friendly than conventional power plants as they emit lower levels of greenhouse gasses.
In December 2019, MAPNA Combined Cycle Power Plants Construction & Development Company (MD-2) received final acceptance certificate (FAC) for Unit VI of Ardabil thermal plant.
Located 35km of Ardabil-Meshgin Shahr road, the power plant is developed on a 70ha site. The project includes engineering, procurement and execution for two thermal units, with a capacity of 162MW each.
With final delivery of the unit, MD-2 has received FAC for 81 units with an aggregate capacity of 12,207MW.
