Enel Green Power North America (EGPNA), a subsidiary of Italian multinational energy company Enel, has started construction works of the 299MW Aurora windfarm in the state of North Dakota, US.
The project involves an investment of $450m and is expected to generate nearly 1.3TWh of clean energy annually upon completion. It is slated for completion by the end of 2020. Aurora windfarm will have the capacity to offset nearly 850,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
Enel Green Power North America CEO Antonio Cammisecra said: “The construction of Aurora demonstrates Enel Green Power’s strength as an integrated developer-builder-operator in North America, expanding our presence in key regions and providing flexible solutions tailored to help commercial customers achieve their sustainability goals.
“Given our expertise in renewables and the favourable long-term economic outlook for the sector, this project is another example of corporate and utility partnerships leveraging renewable energy for both its sustainable features and economic profitability.”
Once completed, the windfarm will supply 90MW of renewable energy to apparel retailer Gap under a 12-year power purchase agreement signed in August 2019, the 90MW will be enough to power more than 1,500 retail outlets.
It will also supply energy to local utility Basin Electric Power Cooperative under a 23-year bundled PPA, which will deliver 142MW to the power grid.
