Power industry contracts in Q3 2019: Europe leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 305 contracts and a share of 41.9% during Q3 2019, followed by Asia-Pacific with 175 contracts and a 24% share and North America with 136 contracts and an 18.7% share.
In fourth place was South and Central America with 62 contracts and an 8.5% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with 50 contracts and a 6.9% share.
On the basis of the last four-quarter average, Europe held a lead over others with 329 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 268.

Solar tops by technology in Q3 2019
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 348 contracts and a 52.2% share, followed by wind with 171 contracts and a 25.6% share and thermal with 81 contracts and a 12.1% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in global power contracts activity during Q3 2019, with 348 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (192) and Electricity Procurement (132).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 327 contracts and a 44.9% share
- Supply & Erection: 192 contracts and a 26.4% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 114 contracts and a 15.7% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 43 contracts and a 5.9% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 35 contracts and a 4.8% share
- Electricity Supply: 17 contracts and a 2.3% share.
Power contracts in Q3 2019: Top companies by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- JERA (Japan) and JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy (Japan): 2,340MW from one contract
- Ministry of Electricity, Iraq (Iraq): 1,600MW from one contract
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,369.8MW capacity from five contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions (Japan): 3,660MW from two contracts
- Siemens (Germany): 2,834MW from four contracts
- Toshiba Plant Systems & Services (Japan): 2,340MW capacity from one contract.
