The H1 total for renewable energy auctions was up 152% year on year compared with the total of 21 auctions in H2 2018.
Renewable energy auctions in H1 2019: Asia-Pacific leads global activity
On comparing renewable energy auctions in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 32 auctions and a share of 60.4% during H1 2019, followed by Europe with nine auctions and a 17% share and South and Central America with nine auctions and a 17% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with three auctions and a 5.7% share.
Solar is top technology area for renewable energy auctions in H1 2019
Looking at renewable energy auctions divided by the type of technology, Solar accounted for the largest proportion with 36 auctions and a 51.4% share, followed by Wind with 16 auctions and a 22.9% share and Hydro with nine auctions and a 12.9% share.

- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 12,969.5MW from Eleven auctions
- Bundesnetzagentur (Germany): 3,308.29MW from eight auctions
- NTPC (India): 2,015MW from three auctions.
